Letter from the President

"In 1993 after many years of working in the accounting field for large and small corporations I decided to start my own company as a sole proprietor. I worked closely with accountants and gained much more knowledge about taxes, bookkeeping and accounting, than your average bookkeeper. What I enjoyed most was preparing a set of books for a business and analyzing the balance sheet and income statement with them. So I decided to offer a bookkeeping service to small businesses in South Florida. The service would provide them with monthly financial statements, payroll reports, and most importantly a checkbook correction. Along the way I found that some small businesses were operating as sole proprietors and they would inquire about becoming incorporated, usually as S corporations. They were aware of the tax benefits and professionalism of becoming incorporated. It was clear to me that I could offer this service for simple incorporations with fees substantially lower than attorneys' fees. I learned the process of incorporating through prior accountants and by researching and speaking with the State of Florida Division of Corporations. The clients I have incorporated always had many questions as far as what to do after receiving their Articles of Incorporation from the State of Florida. I was able to assist them with the beginning stages of their new corporation. After they opened their bank account some clients performed their own bookkeeping duties and some requested my service on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis.

In 1996 I was introduced to Intuit's Quickbooks through a client. The timing could not have been better as my own software program was beginning to "crash" on a daily basis. I decided to switch all of my clients to Quickbooks. I also had clients who were already using it in their offices. As user friendly as Quickbooks states the average business owner still has difficulty setting up their company file. My services were welcomed by many of my clients. I would set up Quickbooks and then train the business owner and/or secretary and bookkeeper. I would also be available to them by phone for technical support. PC Anywhere became a reliable and safe way to access their computers and solve any software issue. My knowledge base of computers and other software programs was very useful when assisting my clients.

In 2000 I decided to form my own corporation, Consulting and Bookkeeping, Inc. My staff and I enjoy assisting my clients with their questions on Quickbooks as well as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and other software program's. And of course questions regarding setting up their new corporation.

Between 2000 – 2007 the company has grown substantially. We now use Webex Access Anywhere so we can connect to our clients computers from anywhere at anytime. We provide services that vary from monthly and quarterly bookkeeping services, Bi-annual reviews in which we will evaluate the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss statement categorizations, make any necessary adjustments, communicate with the client’s Certified Public Accountant for additional journal entries for depreciation, in-office visits one to two times per week, or on an as needed basis.

We have developed expertise in the Not-For-Profit sector of accounting. This has strengthened our ability to set up restricted and non-restricted grants, track spending related to each grant, work with agencies preferred reports tracking grant spending, work with CPA’s year end audit to gather necessary information to perform audit. Handling fundraising income and expense activity. Setting up non-profit merchant credit card accounts. Work closely with Executive Directors setting up company budgets. Attend board of directors meeting if necessary to provide additional financial information. And to generally be “a phone call away”.

Here are a list of current Non-Profits:

Kids At Home, Inc. - Boca Raton, FL

South Florida Regional Convention, Inc. – Boca Raton, FL

Beth Amado helped us form and start Turtle Nest Village, Inc.. Without her knowledge, expertise and patience we would not be the great organization we are today. Not for profits are charged with having the cleanest tightest books and most ethical accounting standards. Both donors and the IRS are scrupulous about our fiscal matters. I sleep well at night knowing that Beth is in charge of the books, because I know it will be perfect.
